Criminal Law & Trial Advocacy

Representation at every stage of a criminal proceeding — from the first information report and bail application through committal, trial and appeal.

What this covers

  • Anticipatory and regular bail applications
  • Petitions to quash proceedings
  • Trial before Magistrate and Sessions Courts
  • Criminal revision and appeal
  • Cases under the NDPS Act, POCSO and SC/ST Act
  • Economic offences and cheating matters

A criminal case moves quickly in its first days, and the decisions taken in that window — whether to approach the court for anticipatory bail, how to respond to a police notice, what to say and what not to say to the investigating officer — shape everything that follows. Our practice is built around being reachable at that stage.

How we work on a criminal matter

We begin by reading the complaint or FIR line by line against the offences alleged, because a large number of matters are weakened at the threshold by ingredients that the complaint simply does not disclose. Where that is the case, a quashing petition may be the shortest route. Where it is not, the work shifts to building the defence file: gathering documents, identifying witnesses whose testimony can be tested in cross-examination, and preparing the accused for the procedural realities of a trial that may run for months.

Bail

Bail applications are drafted around the specific triple test the courts apply — flight risk, tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses — rather than as a general plea. Custody periods, medical condition, the stage of investigation and parity with co-accused are each addressed on the record.

Trial and appeal

At trial we appear for framing of charge, examination and cross-examination of prosecution witnesses, the statement of the accused, defence evidence and final arguments. Where a conviction follows, appeal and revision are taken up before the Sessions Court or the High Court as the case requires.

Every criminal matter turns on its own facts. Nothing on this page is a prediction of outcome or a promise of any particular result.
