About the Chambers
S S Law Offices is a general litigation and advisory practice. We appear before the District Courts, the Calcutta High Court, tribunals and statutory commissions, and we advise businesses and individuals outside the courtroom on the documents and decisions that keep them out of it.
The chambers were established with a simple working method: read the file completely before advising, tell the client what the realistic range of outcomes is, and keep them informed at every stage without being asked. Matters are handled by the advocate the client meets, not passed down unseen.
The work of a lawyer is mostly done before anyone stands up to speak.

The first forty-eight hours of a legal problem usually decide its shape. Calls on urgent matters are returned the same day.
No opinion is offered on a summary. Documents are examined in full, and where a document is missing we say so.
You are told what the next stage costs before you commit to it. There are no charges you have not agreed to in advance.
Client information is not discussed outside the chambers, and matrimonial and criminal files are handled with particular care.
Every notice, order and next step is explained in the language the client is comfortable in — English or Bengali.
Where a negotiated outcome is realistic and better for the client, that is said openly, even though litigation would earn more.

You describe the matter, we read whatever documents you have brought, and you leave with three things: what the legal position appears to be, what the realistic options are, and what the next step would cost. Bring every document you have, including the ones you think are unhelpful.
Anything connected to the matter: agreements, deeds, notices, court papers, bank statements, receipts, and printed copies of relevant messages or emails. Originals are not required at the first meeting; clear photocopies or scans are sufficient.
Fees depend on the nature of the matter, the forum and the stage. They are discussed and agreed before work begins, and are typically structured stage by stage rather than as a single figure, so you know what you are committing to at each point. Court fees, stamp duty and other statutory charges are separate and are payable to the authority concerned.
That depends on the forum, the number of parties and how contested the matter is. We give an honest range at the outset rather than a single figure, and we say when a timeline is genuinely unpredictable. Anyone who guarantees a date is guessing.
Usually not. Personal appearance is required at specific stages — evidence, statements recorded by the court, settlement proceedings and certain criminal hearings. We tell you in advance which dates require you and which do not.
Yes. Communications between an advocate and a client are privileged in law. Beyond the legal position, files are not discussed outside the chambers.
